La French Tech Bangkok is pleased to release the second edition of Thailand Tech Pulse, our quarterly report tracking digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, investment, and talent trends across the Thai technology ecosystem.
This edition covers Q2 2026, with the next report scheduled for October 2026. Our goal remains the same: give founders, investors, and corporate leaders a clear, no-fluff read on what's actually moving in Thailand's tech economy — not just headlines.
Digital Infrastructure and AI Capital Keep Climbing
Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) reported more than THB 1 trillion in Q1 investment applications across 624 projects, with foreign direct investment accounting for THB 965.9 billion of that figure. Digital-sector applications alone exceeded THB 870 billion — a clear signal of where capital is concentrating.
Actual investment, not just approvals, rose to roughly THB 260 billion in Q1, up 18% year-on-year — a sign that Thailand's digital infrastructure boom is translating into real spending rather than pipeline promises. BOI's shift to quarterly progress reporting, requiring projects to be reported within 30 days of each quarter-end, adds a new layer of implementation discipline that foreign investors should track closely.
Notable Deals and Data Center Expansion
Several transactions stood out this quarter:
Amity Robotics closed a US$7 million seed round for physical AI, reinforcing Thailand's growing enterprise and robotics startup bench.
SakdiTech raised a US$5 million seed round in cybersecurity, reflecting rising demand for security tooling in regulated industries.
TikTok System (Thailand) Co. secured approval for a US$25 billion data infrastructure expansion — one of the largest digital infrastructure commitments in the region this year.
France and Thailand are also deepening tech and innovation ties. The recent MEDEF International mission to Bangkok focused on energy, transport, digital innovation, and infrastructure, while French sovereign-cloud positioning increasingly aligns with Thailand's automation, Kubernetes, AI, and edge-computing agenda.
Regulatory Pulse: ETDA Tightens the Screws
The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) has emerged as the key operational regulator for digital platforms, AI governance, and trust services:
ETDA hosted AI Governance Week 2026 on June 29, pushing responsible AI frameworks across digital platforms and fintech.
ETDA's 2026 regulatory roadmap, set May 24, tightens standards for digital platform services and co-regulation.
A shift toward stricter enforcement across 15 categories of digital platforms was detailed May 20 — marketplaces, apps, and platform operators should confirm whether they fall within scope.
Digital Trust Thailand 2026, held June 24, advanced digital identity, e-signature, and trust-service standards.
Enforcement intensity for platform classification and co-regulation is the regulatory variable most likely to shift in Q3.
AI Infrastructure, Fintech, and Platform Monetization
Companies to watch this quarter span AI infrastructure, payments, and platform monetization: AIS Cloud opened a new Bangkok edge data center for AI workloads; SCB X rolled out an AI risk engine for real-time fraud detection; and TrueMoney expanded cross-border QR payments with Vietnamese partners.
Meanwhile, a KASIKORNbank economist warned that Thailand risks trading resources for low-value AI data centers — a caution that foreign firms should heed by pitching productivity and monetizable software, not just raw compute capacity.
Talent: Bangkok-Centric, AI-Hungry, Increasingly Expensive
Hiring demand remains sharpest in AI, cloud, product, and cybersecurity roles, with Bangkok absorbing roughly 78% of tech hiring activity and only 10% remote. Indicative monthly salaries:
Senior Software Engineer: ~THB 130,000
Data/ML Engineer: ~THB 120,000
Product Manager: ~THB 130,000
DevOps/SRE: ~THB 120,000
Cybersecurity Analyst: ~THB 110,000
Executives should expect to pay a premium for senior AI and cybersecurity talent and plan for longer hiring cycles in Bangkok-centric teams.
Ecosystem Signals: A French-Thai Bridge
Thailand's venture ecosystem continues to cluster around AI, fintech, cloud, and deep tech, with active seed-stage investors including 500 TukTuks, Expara Thailand, and iTech Capital. The NIA Private Equity / PE Trust Initiative launched a new investment mechanism with tickets up to THB 100 million for local scale-ups.
French-Thai cooperation was on full display at VivaTech 2026, where NIA led Team Thailand's delegation (June 17–20) after meeting with Cosmetic Valley on well-being, health, and beauty innovation — opening a fresh channel for Thai startups seeking European market access.
Key Trends This Quarter
Accelerating: Digital infrastructure and AI capex; AI-led hiring across banks, fintechs, and cloud hubs.
Plateauing: Ecommerce hiring; general early-stage startup fundraising, with deal sizes still small relative to infrastructure capital.
Emerging: Platform regulation and enforcement; digital trust, identity, and e-signature standards.
Outlook for Q3 2026
The core signal for Q3: capital keeps flowing into Thailand's digital economy, but regulators are demanding faster proof of implementation and tighter platform governance. Companies that can deploy, report, and localize quickly will be best positioned.
Recommended priorities for foreign executives:
Align market-entry and capex plans with BOI's quarterly reporting cycle.
Lock in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity hires early — talent scarcity is pushing Bangkok salaries higher.
Review platform classification and AI governance against ETDA's 2026 roadmap before scaling.
Enter through local partnerships and co-investment rather than a standalone launch.
Use French-linked ecosystem channels — NIA, VivaTech, MEDEF — to source early visibility and partnerships.
Stay tuned for the next edition of Thailand Tech Pulse in October 2026, where we continue tracking one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic digital economies.
